What is Citizenship?
International law adopts three principles on citizenship. Each person must have citizenship, each person should have a single citizenship, the person must be free to choose and change citizenship. The Turkish citizenship law was adopted in 1964 and was amended twice. All citizenship procedures are carried out by the Ministry of Interior. The transition to Turkish citizenship is in three ways. By law, the decision of the competent authority and the right to choose. According to the amendments, foreigners who marry Turkish become citizenship by decision of ministry. According to the resettlement law, provisions on citizens and refugees and their citizenship are regulated. Judicial review is clear in decisions concerning citizenship.

Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship by Birth
Turkish citizenship acquired by birth shall be acquired on the basis of a pedigree or a place of birth. Citizenship acquired by birth shall prevail from the moment of birth.
Genealogy
A child born in Turkey or abroad Turkish citizens of Turkish citizens in the unity of marriage the mother or father.
A Turkish citizen is a Turkish citizen born outside the marriage union from a Turkish national and foreign father.

Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship
The later Turkish citizenship is achieved by the decision of the competent authority or by the adoption or the right to choose.
Acquisition of Turkish citizenship by decision of competent authority
A foreigner who wishes to gain Turkish citizenship may acquire Turkish citizenship upon the decision of the competent authority if he / she meets the conditions specified in this Law. However, fulfilling the conditions required does not provide an absolute right for the acquisition of citizenship.

Terms and Conditions
Foreigners who want to gain Turkish citizenship;
a) To have the nationality and the power to distinguish according to their national law, and stateless, according to the Turkish law,
b) the date of application to reside in Turkey without interruption for five years,
c) confirms that the behavior decided to settle in Turkey
ç) Not having a health-threatening disease,
d) To have good morals,
e) To speak enough Turkish,
f) the livelihood of whom are obliged to look at itself and will allow Turkey to income or to have a profession,
g) There shall be no obstacles in terms of national security and public order,
conditions are searched.
Foreigners wishing to acquire Turkish citizenship may also be required to leave the state citizenship they carry with the above mentioned conditions. The Council of Ministers is authorized to determine the principles for the use of such appreciation.

Exceptional Reasons for Turkish Citizenship
Foreigners may obtain Turkish citizenship following the proposal of the Ministry, with the decision of the Council of Ministers, provided that the State does not have any form of obstacle in terms of national security and public order.
a) bringing Turkey to industrial facilities or scientific, technological, economic, social, sporting, cultural and artistic area of ​​outstanding service to the people sooner or later will be considered and reasoned proposals made in the ministries rights.
b) Persons considered to be naturalized.
c) Persons who are considered as immigrants.

Recovering Turkish Citizenship Without Call
provided that the following people to have a state that will be an obstacle in terms of national security, regardless of the duration of residence in Turkey can re-acquire Turkish citizenship by decision of the Ministry.
a) Those who lost their Turkish citizenship by obtaining the exit permit.
b) Those who lose Turkish citizenship depending on their parents and who do not use the right to choose within the period stipulated in Article 21 of the Law.

Recovery of Turkish Citizenship in Terms of Residence Charter
In accordance with Article 29 of the Law on Turkish Citizenship caused to lose those by the Council of Ministers decided, in accordance with Article 34 of the Act by the decision of the Ministry who have lost their Turkish citizenship, the absence of a state would pose an obstacle in terms of national security and subject to three years of residence in Turkey can re-acquire Turkish citizenship.

Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship by Marriage
Marriage with a Turkish citizen does not directly gain Turkish citizenship. However, foreigners who have been married to a Turkish citizen for at least three years and whose marriage is ongoing can apply to gain Turkish citizenship. Applicants;
a) Living in a family unit,
(b) Not engaging in any activity incompatible with the union of marriage;
c) There is no obstacle in terms of national security and public order,
conditions are searched.

If the marriage is terminated due to the death of the Turkish citizen after the application, the condition of subparagraph (a) of the first paragraph is not required.
Foreigners who acquire Turkish citizenship by marriage will retain Turkish citizenship if they are eligible for marriage if the bachelorette of marriage is decided.

Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship with Adoption
Adopted by a Turkish citizen, the minor can gain Turkish citizenship from the date of the decision, provided that it does not constitute a barrier to national security and public order.

Acquisition of Turkish Citizenship by Selection
Pursuant to Article 27 of the Law, children who lose their Turkish citizenship depending on their parents or their fathers may acquire Turkish citizenship by using their right to vote within three years of being mature.

NATIONAL CYPRUS TURKISH REPUBLICAN CITIZENS
Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, who apply to gain Turkish citizenship, acquire Turkish citizenship if they declare in writing that they want to be Turkish citizens.
The provisions stipulated in Article 11 of the Law shall apply to those who subsequently acquired the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
